Professional Life Practice      -    The Self
Left - Selfie  and Right - Self Portrait

The differences I see in these two images are my poses, the key thing I noticed between doing a selfie and a self portrait is that I used my camera for a self portrait, finding a place to put the camera down and not worry about the different angles and I also had time to make a pose to create an effect for this self portrait. While when taking a selfie my hand is occupied but im able to face the camera at the same time, creating an effect of with no facial expression but I believe that it makes it better because everything that is needed like the exposure is set which I'm able to see but with the self portrait I tried my best to have the perfect exposure but it was slightly under exposed making my image grainy.
Reference: Cindy Sherman was my inspiration towards my facial expression and where my head was also facing. I also looked at various photographs from her other work which were also for self portraits and it has given me referencing towards what my images should look like to show the differences between a selfie and self portrait.
WEEK 2+3 HUMAN BEHAVIOUR
REFLECT: For this first part of this week I looked at certain artists for reference images choosing between classical and contemporary imagery.
Both of the images show a classical shot and some sort of contemporary but I loved the way that they both looked in black and white. These images were shot in Paddington Basin , on the second image I really like the way that I captured the walk of the subject and how I also captured the way that the fountain was on its way up.
On the first image it was a candid photograph of a woman crossing the street, I like the way that I captured the foreground and the midground showing her off more 3d than just flat, and the backstreets giving it the background.
ARTIST REFERENCE : The artists reference for this shoot was mainly inspired by Diane Arbus and Henri Cartier-Bresson, I used various styles and techniques from the photographers to take these photographs, I used the way that both artist would of had their images using black and white film but I used a dslr camera and a black and white filter to capture the contrast in these images. lots of my candid photography and street photography is usually inspired by Henri Cartier-Bresson because I studied his work for a long time through out my years of doing photography and his way of "Capturing the moment" which is shown in both photographs how I captured a certain moment which made my images look the way the look.

WEEK 4+5 The Built Environment
Experimentation
Reflection on experimentation: This is an experiment I have done during that day of a photoshoot, it was an experiment in editing and how industrial the other side of the river is with all the colourful buildings and how tall they are. The editing in this image is really good, I like the way that it shows like its a sunset with the golden hour look, the different colours of the blocks just gives this image certain features and I think the way I would reshoot this image would be to make it seem straighter and also have a stable foreground without many changes.
REFLECTION: I really like how both of these images show the architecture of modern life in London, the second image also shows older buildings so it becomes slightly more classical because its a mix of both worlds with new glass buildings and old fashioned 1930s buildings.

The first image shows Canary Wharf from a side nobody usually looks at, the detail and the eerie imagery just conveys a message through my work. that image is more contemporary which also includes the foreground of new buildings being built from the greenwich area.
REFERENCE: My inspiration for the first photograph is Andreas Feininger and for the inspiration for the second photograph is Bernice Abbott, both of the photographers have inspired me to create photographs which tell some kind of story through images of buildings, both photographers are classical because of the way that I could convey my story through using classical artists but showing them in a more contemporary way. the way that the images are taken shows the amount of inspiration taken from both artists.
REFLECT: Both images show London in two different perspectives, the first one shows off the perspective of people in London and how the streets and building look when there is no rush hour and its quite quiet and beautiful, the editing was created to make it seem like a the day about to end giving the reflections some type of meaning behind it. the massive clouds in the background give the image depth and show that the buildings are more 3d and looks less like just a plain 2d images.
The second image just shows the eerie expectations of London when its empty no rush hour and everyone is at work etc. This image is really good in my opinion the amount of depth in this image makes it more interesting, just looking at the image there is a really good composition there are no other things that take away the focus from the main focus.
REFERENCE: Masakana Nakano was my inspiration for the black and white image of empty streets because of one of his images, I really liked his composition and editing and I tried something very similar but in my own style. also I really love his composition and his work, its a great project which has some type of meaning behind it.

For the image with the buildings it would be once again Bernice Abbott, she inspired me for my other picture and she also inspire me for this one, its just the way she is composing her images and her overall style of work that is very interesting to me.
WEEK 6 - Environment
Reflect: The environment reflection, I really like the way that the first two pictures turned out, love the colours and the shadows and overall look of the images. The last picture is a bit out of context and I feel like it doesn’t look as great and aesthetic towards telling a story like the other two do.
The way that I shot the images above are great, its because
Reference: Josef Koudelka is an artist I have used for this idea, for he has given me inspiration on what type of work I would want to create for environment. my idea was different compared to other artist I have used for reference but the only thing I have gathered from the photographers was add a bit of nature and compare it to buildings and show the differences between them to show the environment we are living in.
the image below was my main inspiration which was black and white, I made my images colour because of the amount of detail I was able to keep instead of turning it monochrome.
Week 7 + 8  Nature
Reference: My inspiration was by multiple people, mainly from Pinterest I was gathering ways of capturing macro nature photography and also looking at the artist Charlie Waite and gathering different inspirations from him, there were multiple reasons I chose these images as my inspiration, for Charlie Waite it was the colours and the way that in every image I've seen of his with nature landscapes were saturated to a great extent and just every colour looked beautiful and in the right grade.
Pinterest was a inspiration on how I would be taking my pictures for the theme nature, I looked at different ways of taking nature images and I thought about what could go wrong while shooting so I went with the macro photographs.
Reflect :
In my opinion the pictures for the nature task came out great, I really enjoyed taking macro photographs and getting as much detail of plants as possible, on my post production image three I would lower the highlights because of the way that it kind of distracts the person who is viewing the image from the actual subject which is the leaf with the water detail. On any other picture I the only thing I would change while shooting is to get the focus correct because the images seem a tiny bit out of focus in certain areas which really ruins it in my opinion.
Week 9 Diary:
Reflect: Week 9 was a diary reference, I took photographs in Peckham reflecting the differences of different areas that we live in London, through the years Peckham in my opinion and opinions I have heard from people who lived there and who lived nearby was that Peckham was a very rural and ghetto area, it was very dangerous in the old years back to the beginning of 2000s but it has gotten a lot better in my opinion, the whole diary reference is just to show how Peckham looks today and what changes have been made to make it better.

Reference: I do not have an exact reference to why I picked reflecting other areas of London compared to the ones I have lived in, the only referencing I have is towards what a diary could or would look like from other photographers. it has nothing to do with inspiration towards of what my idea would turn out to be. Masahisa Fukase, with a page turn of "ravens" was the inspiration of what I wanted my work to turn out as, I wanted it to be some sort of book.
